What are the signs of radiator sludge?

FAQ banner image

The most common and obvious sign of radiator sludge is when you notice your hot water radiators are cold at the bottom when the central heating is switched on and operational.

In addition to this, other tell-tale signs of sludge are the boiler or central heating system regularly making loud noises, or a broken or malfunctioning heat pump. Plus, if radiators require frequent bleeding, and a brown liquid emerges when they are bled, these aspects also indicate radiator sludge.
