It goes without saying that water, electricity and metals are a bad combination, and in the bathroom you can sometimes find all three!
So if an electrical fault does occur, there needs to be a plan in place to prevent any dangerous situations developing. That’s where earth bonding comes in.
Earth bonding in the bathroom simply means that all of the metal components are connected with an earth cable. In a typical household this includes the bathroom radiator, bath, shower, basin, toilet and lighting.
The earth cable prevents any unfriendly electric shocks by collecting the leaking current caused by the fault before it travels through anything metal or damp or your body!
Most bathrooms contain copper pipes which require earth bonding. But if your bathroom has plastic pipes, these do not need to be bonded.
