How do immersion heaters work?

FAQ banner image

Immersion heaters work in a similar way to a kettle, featuring an electric resistance heater – usually a metal loop or coil – to heat up the water contained within. They are essentially an electric water heater held within a hot water cylinder.

A cable connects immersion heaters to their power supply, and they can be easily switched on or off with no requirement for the hot water cylinder’s water to be constantly heated.
